Planning a trip to Jakarta and looking for transport options

Ulver
Making Indonesia my destination this spring, been wanting to go for a while and finally pulling the trigger. Every year I try to pick somewhere completely new and this time Jakarta is on the list. The city looks massive and I want to actually get around properly, not just sit in a hotel and take taxis everywhere. Been thinking about renting something, either a car or a motorcycle, but not sure what actually makes sense there. What do locals and travelers actually use to get around?

Jakarta traffic is something that catches most visitors off guard. Cars can sit completely still for an hour in the wrong part of the city at the wrong time of day, and finding parking on top of that is another story entirely. Gojek is worth downloading for rides when you'd rather not navigate yourself, covers most of the city and works out cheaper than regular taxis.

Motorcycles are what a huge chunk of Jakarta actually runs on, they thread through gridlock where nothing else moves and get you across the city in a fraction of the time. Renting one is pretty accessible and there are options depending on how comfortable you are on a bike. Worth looking at motorcycle rental in Jakarta here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/motorcycle-rental/indonesia-jakarta . Good range of bikes available and everything can be sorted out before you even land.
