Hi everyone,
Ufuk, Robert, and I worked on a new layout for the Flink website, and added some content to the frontpage to (hopefully) convey more clearly what Flink is all about and what are Flink's differentiating features (a point of criticism to the old website was often that it is very non-descript). The new layout is currently being uploaded, and it should be up in a couple of hours. Let us know what you think when the new website is up! Kostas |
Actually, I cancelled the commit.
Perhaps this is a good time to comment on the new frontpage (the rest of the content is the same). You can see the frontage in pdf (two parts, as you would scroll down) here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4b9f4judlczfzkp/AADIsdw1vxyNVZH6oyWsAIWNa?dl=0 I think we can sort out aesthetic concerns even after the website is up, so I would like to focus this discussion more on the content. The formatting of the Scala example code is a bit off in places. Other
than that it looks very good. I like it as well. Much better than the current website :-)

Hey!
It looks great :)) If I would only change one thing, I would remove "in clusters" from the tagline. First, because it can also be locally and in the cloud and second, because the shorter the tagline the better, no? ;) Cheers, V. I also like the design.. Looks almost too good for an open source project 😁
Some minor things Shouldn't it be run on Yarn as contrary to run in Yarn? Also the section about reliable and scalable. This could benefit from a bit of rewording.. Guess all three paragraphs should mention the word FLINK - last one omits it. And maybe from a design point make the word stand out. What about a java example as well maybe with a toggle like in on of the recent blog posts? As it seems to put too much stress on scala? Also does it work on mobile as well - would be a shame if it doesn't. My two cents Johannes On 27 Nov 2014 20:25, Kostas Tzoumas <[hidden email]> wrote: Actually, I cancelled the commit. I also like the shorter tag line.
What about using 3 attributes.. As three is a good number and it also preserves the layout that the text is beneath and both sides of the logo Like Fast, reliable, large scale data processing. Or with clusters.. It should be at least "on clusters" 😁 Johannes On 27 Nov 2014 20:43, Vasiliki Kalavri <[hidden email]> wrote: Hey! IMO, the tag line should make clear that Flink is a system for parallel data processing. 2014-11-27 23:35 GMT+01:00 Markl, Volker, Prof. Dr. < [hidden email]>: > +1 > > Von meinem iPhone gesendet > > > Am 27.11.2014 um 20:37 schrieb "Gyula Fora" <[hidden email]>: > > > > +1 > > > > I also think that at looks very good! > > Stylish :) > > > >> On 27 Nov 2014, at 20:32, Stephan Ewen <[hidden email]> wrote: > >> > >> I like it as well. Hey,
the new website looks very precise and clean! I agree with Vasia, I would remove "in clusters" and generialize it to "Fast reliable parallel data processing.". Hey Kostas,
I just saw a related issue: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLINK-1089 You can close it after the SVN repo is working again and you pushed the website. Hey, it is nice that the new website is in place however I'm curious why
the comparison with Spark got replace with Hadoop. :) On Fri, Dec 5, 2014 at 4:13 PM, Ufuk Celebi <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hey Kostas, > > I just saw a related issue: > https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLINK-1089 > > You can close it after the SVN repo is working again and you pushed the > website. > > On Wed, Dec 3, 2014 at 6:22 PM, Kostas Tzoumas <[hidden email]> > wrote: > > > Thanks a lot for all the comments! Hey,
I thought that Hadoop MapReduce would provide a more standard baseline for most people, as the oldest such project in Apache, and the closest we have to an industry standard. The point of these graphs in the frontpage (at least the point I was trying to make) is not to compare Flink vs. Hadoop or Flink vs. Spark, but to give an intuitive feeling of Flink's performance to the project visitor.
