A possible solution is to add this to {{StreamWriterBase.hflushOrSync()}}:

if (os.getWrappedStream() instanceof DFSOutputStream) {
    ((DFSOutputStream) os.getWrappedStream()).hsync(EnumSet.of(HdfsDataOutputStream.SyncFlag.UPDATE_LENGTH));
}
