To implement end-to-end configurability, Source Readers need access to the Flink configuration.

Source Readers sometimes need access to the hostname of the machine running the reader task, to add locality preferences to requests for partitions from the external source system.

The natural way to give access to both is through the {{SourceReaderContext}}.
