Flink already supports async functions, but still does not support asynchronous sinks. At the moment the only way to achieve an asynchronous sink is doing a "hack" by using an async function as a sink, followed by a `DiscardingSink` as described [here|http://apache-flink-user-mailing-list-archive.2336050.n4.nabble.com/does-the-flink-sink-only-support-bio-tp17122p17125.html] and [here|http://apache-flink-user-mailing-list-archive.2336050.n4.nabble.com/Two-questions-about-Async-tp34559p34588.html].

It would be nice if there could be native support for asynchronous sinks in Flink.
