Hi Apache Flink community !
My name is Christine Fong. I'm a 3rd year Computer Science student at EISTI Engineering school, France, and I wondered if I could join the team during this summer (maybe even longer) and contribute. I have some basic knowledge of machine learning, data mining, statistics, parallel computing and Java programming. But I'm still new to Big data and open-source, two cool things I'm really eager to learn about :D. Should I choose anything, I hope I can work on the spatial data processing library project I found on the GSoC page (here <https://github.com/stratosphere/stratosphere/wiki/Google-Summer-of-Code-2014#spatial-data-processing-library-for-stratosphere>). I would certainly need the guidance of a mentor, though. But if I can help in any other ways, feel free to ask. Thanks, Christine Fong |
Hi Christine!
Happy to hear that you are interested in contributing. The spatial data processing is a fun and challenging topic. We are currently creating a set of "how to get started" and "how to contribute" docs. We hope to have a first version ready in the next days. Until then, I can point you to the documentation of the predecessor project "Stratosphere", which evolved into Flink: http://stratosphere.eu/docs/0.5/ Greetings, Stephan On Wed, Jun 18, 2014 at 12:08 PM, Christine Fong <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi Apache Flink community ! > > My name is Christine Fong. Thank you very much for your greetings and suggestion, Stefan :D. Are you
another contributor ? Nice to meet you. As you recommended, I've started to familiarize myself with Flink using the stratophere.eu website as a reference, and I look forward to see the new docs. Until then, do you know any good book or document about spatial data processing I could consult? Especially about fuzzy special join, spatial partitioning and indexing, as the project states. It would be cool to learn more in the meantime. And so, I almost forgot to congratulate the team... Congratulations to Flink/Stratosphere for becoming an Apache Incubator project! 2014-06-18 13:17 GMT+02:00 Stephan Ewen <[hidden email]>: > Hi Christine! > > Happy to hear that you are interested in contributing. Hi Christine,
we had some discussions with students interested in the spatial data processing library GSOC project on our former the mailing list. Here are some pointers into the archive that you might find interesting: - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/stratosphere-dev/spatial/stratosphere-dev/Inf9LuDcZjk/2XMHKgYHaEAJ - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/stratosphere-dev/spatial/stratosphere-dev/P9plwfmpuuQ/llFYeu5OvqkJ - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/stratosphere-dev/spatial/stratosphere-dev/jpSUhgsPz54/tvukCC7i8mgJ Best, Fabian 2014-06-19 14:14 GMT+02:00 Christine Fong <[hidden email]>: > Thank you very much for your greetings and suggestion, Stefan :D. Hi!
There is also a new guide online: http://flink.incubator.apache.org/how-to-contribute.html Stephan |
