Who is interested in starting a weekly or bi-weekly IRC / Hangout meeting?

Robert Metzger
Hi,

I was thinking about starting a weekly or bi-weekly IRC or Google Hangout
meeting for Flink users and developers to discuss what is going on (without
decision making!)

I would like to know who is interested in:
- a weekly meeting
- a bi-weekly meeting

And what form of meeting:
- IRC (=chat)
- Google Hangout.

I vote for:
- bi-weekly
- Hangout.

If we had an IRC it wouldn't have to be weekly or bi-weekly. People could
just always ask questions, right?

I mean people can idle in an IRC channel all the time, but I would expect
that we "meet" by being online at the same time.

Re: Who is interested in starting a weekly or bi-weekly IRC / Hangout meeting?

Ufuk Celebi
+1 bi-weekly Hangout

Concerning IRC:
People can also always ask on the mailing list. I like the idea of having an IRC channel in order to provide faster responses, but just a ML keeps all questions/answers in a single archived place.

I am interested in
-) a b-weekly meeting
-) IRC

The reason with IRC is because you can idle for a while and think
about answers and questions while the same time.
Plus, ASF already have IRC bot that could record the channel history
and report it to dev@ list (which we have to do for openness).

Bi-weekly meetings by allowing different times to accommodate diff
timezones for each "gathering" =)

Re: Who is interested in starting a weekly or bi-weekly IRC / Hangout meeting?

Robert Metzger
Okay, it seems like the majority wants a biweekly hangout (Sorry Henry).

I have started a Doodle to find a suitable date:
http://doodle.com/d4xyg6weikkicn55
I told Doodle to enable time-zone support. Lets see how that works out.

Re: Who is interested in starting a weekly or bi-weekly IRC / Hangout meeting?

We should be able to find a time slot that is suitable for PST as well.
Something that is 6pm CET / 9am PST or 7pm CET / 10am PST.

Henry Saputra
In reply to this post by Robert Metzger
Hangout is ok too =)

The key is we need to get history or summary of Google hangout meeting
to share with dev@ list. That is why I want to use IRC instead bc
INFRA have support for it.

As for biweekly meets, we should do two different times to allow 2
sides of the world can participate.
Like Stephen said, something like 9pm PST or 9amPST alternating would be great!

Re: Who is interested in starting a weekly or bi-weekly IRC / Hangout meeting?

Robert Metzger
Okay.
9am PST seems to be 6pm CEST, so thats fine for most of us.
9am PST however is 6am in the morning and I don't expect anyone to be awake
at that time ;)

I suggest to have our first call around 9am PST, 6pm CEST time and then
discuss how to proceed.
It seems that Fabian is never available at 6pm. Is it okay for everyone to
move the meeting to 10am (PST), 7pm (CEST) ?

Shifting by one hour does not increase chances that I can join ;-)

You guys can go ahead with 6pm CEST / 9am PST.
I might be able to join but can't promise.

Okay ;)

Then, how about Friday, 27 June, 6pm CEST / 9am PST.
This is the Hangout URL:

Nobody reacted to my suggested meeting time. I think I should give people
more time to react.

How about Wednesday, 2 July, 6pm CEST / 9am PST? (I want some +1s ;) )
