Roadmap for the 1.0 release

Stephan Ewen
Hi all!

I have been asked a few times for a roadmap and time frame for Flink 1.0 a
couple of times in the last weeks. I would like to start the discussion
here, and create a doc that we can point these people to.

The doc should define what our goals for version 1.0 are (what features we
want in) and based on that, we can make an estimate when it will be
available.

It seems that we have consensus that 1.0 is the next release after 0.10 and
that its main focus is mechanisms to define public APIs and ensure
backwards compatibility, rather than a long list of additional major
features.

Please add suggestions to this document, which you regard as critical to
fix/include.

Greetings,
Stephan

Re: Roadmap for the 1.0 release

Robert Metzger
Hi Stephan,
I like the idea of having a wiki page for planning the 1.0 release.

Lets try to focus on API stability, user-reported bugs etc. for the 1.0
release to bring it out as soon as possible.
Many users see a 1.0 release as a clear sign for stability and maturity,
and I think Flink has reached that level some time ago already. So in my
opinion its more about adding the label to our current code rather than
completing a list.

Regards,
Robert
